Dwayne Johnson Reflects on Black Adam 2 Not Happening in James Gunn’s DCU

Actor Dwayne Johnson has reflected on Black Adam 2 not happening in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

In October 2022, the DCEU movie Black Adam was released, a superhero movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Teth-Adam. This movie teased more of the DCEU, with the mid-credits scene featuring Henry Cavill’s return as Superman promising a face-off between the characters.

However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooting DC and recasting the role of Superman, Black Adam 2 will not be moving forward. Johnson recently commented on the decision to discontinue his iteration of the character.

“You have people coming in who creatively, fiscally make decisions that you may not agree with. So I think Black Adam was one of those movies that got caught in that web of new leadership,” Johnson says.

“Like, wait a second,” he continues. “You have the biggest opening of your career. Sure, no China; that could have been $100-200 million more. You’re establishing a new superhero, you want to grow out the franchise, you bring back Superman and Henry Cavill, the world went crazy…we created a diverse superhero portfolio where we had men and women of color…You know what it is? It’s like new ownership coming in, buying an NFL team, and going ‘alright, not my head coach and not my quarterback. Doesn’t matter how many times you won the Super Bowl, doesn’t matter how many rings you got, I’m going with somebody else.'”
