Matthew Vaughn Hopes Argylle Will Have 2 Sequels
Argylle director Matthew Vaughn has visions of a big franchise for his upcoming spy comedy film, with multiple sequels planned if things go right.
Speaking to Total Film, Vaughn revealed that — should the first Argylle perform well — the plan is to do more films centered on books written by mysterious real-life author Elly Conway.
According to Vaughn, future Conway books are set to form the basis for the sequels to the film, one of which will explore a younger version of the spy.
“Book one is about: how did Argylle become a spy? That will be the next film. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s the young Argylle, and that becomes Henry, because Henry loves the idea of doing a proper Argylle movie as well,” said Vaughn.
What to expect in Argylle?
“In the film, Elly Conway is a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie,” reads the synopsis. “But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Accompanied by Aiden (Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”
Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn from a screenplay adapted by Jason Fuchs. It stars Henry Cavill, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Catherine O’Hara, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Ariana DeBose, Rob Delaney, and. The latter is also set to provide the original music for the title track and score for the high-profile project. Executive producers are Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn, and Adam Fishbach, with Fuchs, Adam Bohling, and David Reid producing.
The film opens February 2nd.
